• Portugal are competing at their sixth successive EURO and their seventh in total. They have never failed to make it through the group stage.
• Portugal's greatest achievement is reaching the final of UEFA EURO 2004 on home soil, where they unexpectedly lost 1-0 to Greece.
• The 1984 EURO in France was Portugal's first – they reached the semi-finals, where they lost 3-2 to the hosts in extra time.
• Portugal's record in qualifying was W7 D0 L1. They come to the finals on a seven-game competitive winning streak.
• Portuguese sides have played three games in Saint-Etienne in UEFA club competition. Vitória Setúbal drew 1-1 with St-Étienne in September 1962, but Benfica (1-0, November 1967) and Sporting CP (2-0, September 1974) lost on subsequent visits.

• With a population of 330,000, Iceland is the smallest nation to have appeared at any major final tournament; with around 10.5 million citizens, Portugal's population is around 32 times that of Iceland.
• Iceland qualified with a record of W6 D2 L2.
• Icelandic sides have played five games in France in UEFA club competition, losing all five of them by an aggregate score of 17-2.
